Note: Engineering laws vary by state in regard to Engineer of Record (EOR), liability, and engineering seal requirements. For example, when working with an existing product or service for a company in California, an EOR may not be required. In these cases, the lower rate of $150/hour will apply.
Services may include, but not limited to, developing engineering concepts, performing application and design analysis, creating drawing package with Bill of Material (BOM), and supporting manufacturing, implementation, and testing of a design/repair/modification. We specialize in repair/modification of existing equipment especially in combination with root cause analysis.
The rate includes responsibility as Engineer of Record (EOR) as applicable.
Provide troubleshooting support of various installation, operation, and/or maintenance problems for a wide spectrum of mechanical equipment. Support may be provided on-site, remotely, or a combination of both, as appropriate. Hazard analysis and safety support is also available.
For resolution requiring Analysis & Design work or Engineer of Record (EOR) designation, that portion of time will default to the rate for Analysis & Design.
Provide technical engineering support such as draft review for engineering reports or design concepts, product design approach, design methodologies or analysis recommendations, field adv etc.
General support does NOT include responsibility as Engineer of Record (EOR). For EOR, the rate will default to the rate for Analysis & Design and requires the work to be performed under the supervision of the EOR or all analysis work will have to be repeated by the EOR. No rubber stamping - IT'S THE LAW!
Perform risk management analysis such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to quantify and mitigate risks based upon criticality, detectability, and occurrence. Other tools may include analysis through Management of Change (MoC) to identify and mitigate risks before the changes are implemented. Deliverable includes a final report of the analysis.
Does NOT include responsibility as Engineer of Record (EOR).
Lead and/or facilitate a root cause analysis (RCA) for engineering incidents, Significant Injury and Fatality (SIF) incidents, or general problem solving. The process includes performance of the RCA, development and support of implementation of containment actions, communication and technical documents as required, tecrepresentation to parties on behalf of the client, and a final RCA report.
The Analysis & Design rate applies to portions of work with responsibility as Engineer of Record (EOR).
Following completion of a RCA, the identified causes and contributors require the development and implementation of corrective actions to resolve the findings. Corrective actions, implementation recommendations, and effectiveness measures will be provided with risk management tools such as Management of Change (MoC) and FMEA applied. The approach works to ensure new problems are not introduced, or are mitigated, as a result of the implementation.
Perform in-field/on-site fact-finding service. This includes thorough documentation of evidence related to an incident through various data collection methods such as photography, video, measurements, interviews, collection of operational data, etc. A comprehensive final report will include all documented evidence an. Fact-finding reports are a valuable asset for performing root cause analysis (RCA), supporting audits and insurance inquiries, documenting operational history or failures, and more
Provide expert witness testimony or deposition related to engineering or root cause analysis work provided by Decypher Services.
Creation or modification of technical process documents (installation, service bulletins, operation/maintenance, etc.), process mapping for an existing or new process, or perform an analysis of existing process seeking improvements in safety, efficiency, effectivity, economics, and more. We specialize in Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process development, improvement, and implementation support.
Perform a safety walkdown or safety inspection in advance of or during a work process. Perform and document a job hazard analysis. Review, modify, or develop a safety process or plan.
The 2-day course is intended to provide a general root cause analysis (RCA) exposure to those new to RCA. It provides the purpose and benefits of RCA, the various methodologies and process steps to complete a RCA, as well as simple problem-solving examples utilizing the course content.
Participants will complete the course with the ability to support a RCA as a member of a problem-solving team but should not expect to be ready to independently lead a RCA.
The 4-day course is a comprehensive version of the 2-day course intended to prepare participants for independently leading root cause analysis and problem-solving. The content depth for methodologies and process steps is significant and is applied through multiple working course examples both as a class and as teams.
Root cause analysis and problem-solving is an art developed through practice across progressively complex problems. Coaching is recommended to accelerate working level skills.
Coaching of participants of the 2-day or 4-day courses is available to support their skill development and/or provide support through their active RCA/problem-solving efforts. Coaching can include specific development beyond the processes, methodologies, and skills discussed during the courses as requested or recommended.
Two values of quality coaching include accelerated skill development through careful and tailored teaching of critical thinking utilizing the taught RCA methodologies.
Travel (airfare, lodging, food, etc.) is charged at cost. Vehicle mileage rates are charged at applicable IRS rates.
Work performed in hazardous environments with exposures such as extreme weather, high stress, high risk, foreign travel, etc. may entail additional fees or increased rates. Please inquire with your specific needs.
External services such as lab work or external consultants/specialists contracted and paid by Decypher Services on behalf of the client will be charged at cost plus 10%. External services directly contracted by a client do not incur a fee.
Specialized software and equipment use will incur a usage fee. The fees may vary by time and usage type and will be discussed during consultation.
Expendable materials such as supplied books for the RCA courses and materials needed to perform work will be charged at cost. These fees will be kept reasonable and with client agreement.
